Why an import?

Anyone buying a used car in the UK usually has a stark choice: you can buy below £5000 for a car that’s a Pandora’s box of hidden misery, or go above about £12,000 to have something with a bit of reassurance.

The area in the middle, where most of our budgets lie, is a pot-luck minefield of promises, wheel-kicking and compromise; boring cars and high mileages. If you need a 7 or 8-seater your choices will be narrower still.

This is where Japanese imports shine: rust free, low-mileage cars that have a build quality, range of features and versatility that's just not available in domestic models. They can still be economically shipped, the steering wheel is on the correct side... and they turn heads too!

And if you seek something more familiar - a VW or Audi for example - then you can find ten-year-old models in Japan that, thanks to the country's mostly temperate climate and strict service regime, have had a far easier life, with far fewer miles, than the equivalent UK-marketed models. And since these are familiar to all our insurance brokers you won't have to shop around for cover.

Why an MPV?

At Devon JDM we always try to have a good range of models in stock at any one time. But we pride ourselves on sourcing and selling 7 and 8-seater MPVS and in being able to tell customers anything they need to know about them.

In South Devon, where we operate, families are typically larger than the national average. The extended family lives closer, ties are tighter, and excursions by car often involve the entire clan.

The UK domestic market has a remarkably poor selection of vehicles to service this need, with the few 7 and 8 seater options either too big, overpriced or with a poor record of reliability.

For something that can take eight people and a kayak, or a family and all their bikes, with enough space for camping gear in a vehicle that can also turn into a giant bed inside, JDM cars are the best affordable option. Incredibly versatile interiors handle passengers and cargo with ease, while 4WD options get you off the beaten track for camping and exploring.

Brands like Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi set the world benchmark for reliability and passenger safety, and models made for Japan's domestic market are forced to meet even higher standards of reliability than the UK models built under the same badge.
